Here to Help is a group program for children ages 4 to 16 and their mothers who have been exposed to domestic violence (abuse in the home).
JF&CS’ Here to Help Program provides a safe and supportive environment where both children and their mothers can begin to heal from experiences of violence. Children have the opportunity to talk about what they have experienced (and may continue to be experiencing as a part of post-separation abuse) at home. Through Here to Help, children understand that they are not alone in their experiences; they are able to talk to other children, often for the first time, who have been exposed to the same things.
Research and experience inform our understanding of the impact that domestic violence can have on parenting; the Here to Help Program supports women to take a proactive, developmentally-appropriate and informed approach to parenting. Here to Help focuses on parenting skills and strategies to assist mothers in working through these challenges.
Jewish Family and Child Service is proud to be a lead agency in this unique and impactful program in partnership with the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Catholic Family Services, Flemingdon Neighbourhood Services, Jamaica Canadian Association, North York Women's Shelter and C.O.S.T.I.
