student placements

Students play an important role in supporting Jewish Family and Child Service’s programs in Toronto and York Region. We are committed to providing meaningful professional development and learning opportunities for students across a range of human service fields of study.
We have direct service placements within our Poverty Reduction, Child Welfare and Mental Health services, serving clients of all ages. Some of our programs exclusively serve the Jewish community (for example, our child welfare services), while other programs are open to the broader community (for example, our JDD Adolescent Centre).

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ

What does a JF&CS student placement look like? What can I expect? There will be practical work experience with a designated supervisor who will guide your work, provide feedback and answer questions to ensure you are learning effectively. Placements often also provide structured learning experiences such as the opportunity to attend meetings, workshops and training sessions to expand your knowledge.

Do I require having access to a vehicle? Many of our student placements do not require access to a vehicle. Yet, having a vehicle is an asset. For example, there are opportunities for all students to observe different services at our various agency locations (see our next question to see the locations).

Where in Toronto are the student placement located? We have placements at each of our four locations: •Central office on Bathurst, north of Sheppard •JDD Adolescent Centre (section 23 school) on Keewatin, off Mount Pleasant, north of Eglinton •Downtown branch on Bloor St. E. by Sherbourne

Do some of the placements have occasional evening hours? Yes, certain programs may require evening hours. For example, placements at the JDD Adolescent Centre have occasional, mandatory evening hours. Evening hours can be between the hours of 5-9pm.

Are there remote or hybrid opportunities? No, placement students will be required to work on site for all of their placement. We have different locations. Click Apply Now to review the location info for each placement. With any other questions, please contact us at studentplacements@jfandcs.com.
